Thank you for your patience during construction at the Wealthy Street Recycling & Administration Center for the Kent County Department of Public Works. Now that construction is nearing completion, we’re pleased to announce the phased re-opening and opening of the various services we will be offering at this location.

Please note that each program/service has a different re-opening timeline:

• The residential recycling drop-off station that has been closed during construction of the new administrative offices will be re-opening soon! It will be returning in a new location on the property and will look a little different but will offer a safe and convenient place to drop off recyclables for those residents who don’t have curbside recycling where they live. We’ll announce the reopening date soon – visit our website or social media pages for updates!
• The electronics drop-off station, which has been closed during construction, has reopened as of Saturday 1/8/2022. Click here for a list of electronics accepted for recycling at our KCDPW facilities. The Wealthy St. electronics recycling drop-off will be open for drop-off during the same year-round operational hours as our SafeChem (household hazardous waste) Drop-Off and SafeChem Swap Shop!

• Kent County DPW’s Administrative Offices has moved to 1045 Wealthy Street Southwest in Grand Rapids as of December 13 and is open 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. • The Grand Rapids SafeChem Drop-off station has moved to the Wealthy Street Recycling & Administration Center and started collection operations as of Saturday 1/8/2022. Please note that the Scribner Avenue SafeChem drop-off station permanently closed on Wednesday 1/5/2022 and was moved to the Wealthy St. location. The other four SafeChem Drop-Off stations around the county will continue to be open normally. You can find a list of items accepted at our SafeChem Drop-off programs, the location addresses and hours of services for all SafeChem drop-offs on our SafeChem webpage. The new address for the Grand Rapids-based SafeChem Drop-off station will be 1045 Wealthy Street SW in Grand Rapids and the year-round operating hours are as follows:

• We’re pleased to bring a new service to the Wealthy Street Recycling & Administration Center: the SafeChem Swap Shop (share program)! This program offers no-cost home and maintenance products that someone else has purchased but didn’t need anymore. The share program will offer things like bathroom cleaners, lawn care products, paint thinner and motor oil that one person needs to get rid of and another person can use! The SafeChem Swap Shop will be open for browsing during the same year-round operational hours as our Wealthy St. SafeChem (household hazardous waste) Drop-Off and Electronics Recycling Drop-off!
