Stop by to find free, usable household cleaners, automotive supplies, lawn and garden products and more – all inspected and reclaimed by our Resource Recovery Specialists
SafeChem Swap Shop
You don’t have to “swap” to “shop” at the SafeChem Swap Shop.
Our Resource Recovery Specialists inspect materials dropped off at our Household Hazardous Waste sites, and unopened or gently used products, cleaners and supplies are added to our Swap Shop inventory and available to the public for free.
The Swap Shop inventory is always changing, and typically includes:
– Automotive: brake fluid, oil, car wash supplies
– Household: drain cleaner, spray paint, stains, varnishes, thinners, adhesives
– Lawn and Garden: weed killer, pool supplies, insect repellent
– Personal care: soaps, nail polish, shampoos
Everything is free! We just ask that you:
– talk with our staff, show us what you’re taking, and sign our reuse waiver
– return any unused products to one of our Households Hazardous Waste sites for proper disposal
– tell your friends about how we’re keeping these materials out of the landfill

Frequently Asked Questions
Why give this stuff away for free?
The Swap Shop is built around reuse. Too often, unwanted and unopened Household Hazardous Waste is not properly disposed of or finds its way to a landfill. The Swap Shop helps us find new homes for these items and maximizes their reuse. We also hope it helps homeowner and renters save a couple bucks.
What if the item I bring home contains something different than the label?
While we do our best to make sure this doesn’t happen by inspecting each item before it enters the Swap Shop, it does happen from time to time. If you are suspicious of anything taken from the Swap Shop, please return it to one of our Household Hazardous Waste sites and let our staff know it came from the Swap Shop.
Can I bring items directly to the Swap Shop to donate?
No, items must be dropped off at one of our Household Hazardous Waste sites. Our Household Hazardous Waste experts have some criteria to determine if an item qualifies for the Swap Shop or needs to be disposed of in a different manner. If you’d like to donate to the Swap Shop just let one of the Resource Recovery Specialists know when you drop of your materials at one of our collection sites.
