How can Kent County Department of Public Works help?

Explore the waste stream options below for how you can reuse, recycle, compost, or dispose of the item you are trying to get rid of through a KCDPW facility or service.

Donate or Reuse
Recycling Cart
Special Collection Recycling
Proper Disposal

If your media item (CD, DVD, VHS tape, record, etc.) is still in great shape and you just don’t have a use for it anymore, consider donating or reusing it! Facebook Marketplace, Freecycle, Craigslist, or your local BuyNothing Project group are all great places to give away items. Check out some of the Community Disposal Outlets below for any places that accept donations.

Additionally, media items make can be repurposed for DIY projects.

Media items are not made out of compostable materials.

Media items should not go in your curbside single-stream recycling cart as they are not made from recyclable materials and cause contamination.

Most media items are not made to be recyclable but some places are attempting to develop technology to process these items for recycling.

Check out some of the Community Disposal Outlets below for any places or programs that recycle these items.

Media items do not contain hazardous materials.

If your DVD, CD, VHS tape, or other media item is beyond reuse, they can be landfilled either in your trash bin with general refuse or brought to one of our disposal facilities:

North Kent Waste & Recycling Center in Rockford
South Kent Waste & Recycling Center in Byron Center
