CRT or Box TVs & Computer Monitors

How can Kent County Department of Public Works help?

Explore the waste stream options below for how you can reuse, recycle, compost, or dispose of the item you are trying to get rid of through a KCDPW facility or service.

Donate or Reuse
Compost
Recycling Cart
Special Collection Recycling
Proper Disposal
Trash

If your TV or computer monitor is still in great shape and you just don’t have a use for it anymore, consider donating or reusing it! Facebook Marketplace, Freecycle, Craigslist, or your local BuyNothing Project group are all great places to give away items. Check out some of the Community Disposal Outlets below for any places that accept donations.

TVs and computer monitors are not made out of compostable materials.

TVs, computer monitors, and other electronics should never go in your curbside single-stream recycling cart as it puts the Recycling Center at increased risk for fire. Additionally, cords from these devices can also wrap around and clog sorting equipment or tangle up other recyclables, preventing them from getting recycled.

CRT or box TVs and Computer Monitors can be recycled through Kent County Department of Public Work’s two residential electronics recycling drop-offs for a fee (based on size and county residency):

North Kent Waste & Recycling Center in Rockford
South Kent Waste & Recycling Center in Byron Center

The links above can provide the location address, recycling fee, and hours of service. No commercial electronics from businesses, schools, non-profits, etc. (only residential). Please see Community Outlets below for commercial electronics recyclers.

These types of TVs and monitors do contain hazardous materials hence the fee to recycle them. The fee helps pay for the removal of that material prior to recycling the CRT or box TVs and computer monitors.
TVs and computer monitors have finite precious metals and other resources in them. Keeping them out of the landfill and into electronics recycling ensures we give those valuable resources a second chance at life and use!
