Board of Public Works

The Kent County Department of Public Works and Board of Public Works were created by the Kent County Board of Commissioners, as authorized by Public Act 185. The Department of Public Works is considered an agency of the County under the general control of the Kent County Board of Commissioners and under the immediate control of the Board of Public Works. The Kent County Board of Commissioners appoints the 7 member Board of Public Works members, made up of 5 elected County Commissioners, the elected Drain Commissioner and a Road Commissioner.

2023 & 2024 Meeting Schedule

The Board meets on the first Thursday of the month at 8:30 a.m., at the Kent County Recycling & Education Center – James Bosscher Classroom on the 2nd floor (977 Wealthy St. SW, Grand Rapids, 49504), unless otherwise noted.

NOTE: Kent County has transitioned to the Fiscal Year-End date of September 30th to align with the State of Michigan’s fiscal year. The 2023 budget year is set for January 1, 2023 through September 30, 2023 and the 2024 budget year is set for October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024.
